Aubree Update

Standard

Who is in need of an Aubree update, since I have been pretty sketchy about those lately!  (My bad!)

She is 16 months old… plus a week or two.  We’ll go with 16 months cause that’s easier. She has 11 teeth, that I can find without being bitten.  She is fully walking now, almost running.  She’s so funny.  She gets to going real fast and then can’t change directions quick enough and runs into stuff.  I think it’s hilarious.  Other people use it as a reason to say she’s related to me cause I just randomly run into stuff.  I guess that’s all a matter of perspective.  She looks so cute toddling around with her little big girl pig tails.  They’re adorable, and most all her hair fits in them!  Sooo cute. She can get off couches on her own.  She can’t quite get on them on her own yet, and I don’t usually let her get off on her own, but the kid has a mind of her own and sometimes she’s faster than I am.

She will crawl into my lap because she wants to.  She gives me a hug after every diaper change.  She will come up to me and give me a hug or a kiss just because she wants to.  She knows what “kiss” means in English and Spanish.  She can sign “please,” “more,” and “thank you,” though she does “please” the most.  She points at whatever she wants and then signs “please” and most people just give her what she wants.  Pretty sure I can never take her into a toy store if she and anyone else are with me cause she’ll come out with the whole store.  She wanted a bubblegum dispenser the other day, it was really brightly colored, and she pointed at it and said “please” and I said “no” and the cashier looked at me like I was a monster.  Aubree gave me the “Kimmy” face and I realized I’m in a whole lot of trouble.  (I call her Kimmy because she has curly curly hair and she makes faces just like my sister makes when she’s being ornery.)

She says “mama,” “mine,” “book,” “puppy,” “dog,” “Pop Pop,” “bye bye” (diva waive included), and “uh oh.”  She understands if I ask her if she wants her cup, and then says “please.”  She conveys pretty well when she wants food.  She will walk with me into her room and lay down on her mat to get her diaper/clothes changed.  She will also walk me to our rocking chair when it’s bedtime so we can cuddle.  And the best thing ever!  She’s starting to understand when I give her instructions.  I told her “Get out of the kitchen, come over here with Mama,” the other day and she DID IT!!!!!  And then she wanted me to clap with her.  (That’s how I knew she was following instructions, she knows when she does what I want her to do, I’ll clap for her.)  It was awesome.

This age has been so fun.  I love to see her blossom.  I wish I could do something about her temper, but we’ll get it figured out.  She is suffering a little bit of separation anxiety at the moment, but I think we might be getting over that just a little.  At least at daycare she wasn’t AS clingy as she had been.  She’s just getting so bright and full of personality.  I can’t wait to see more of all that she’s going to learn!

Things I am learning

Standard

Here are some things I have learned lately:

I don’t have enough hands… Or time… Or energy

But that’s ok. I get by and I’m having a lot of fun.

I can make potato salad!

It’s ok to let someone help me in the kitchen.

Toddler life is a life of up, down, up, down, up…… Down.

Toddlers have absolutely no idea what they want (hence the previous statement) and they want it RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

There are all types of fun. Some of them don’t include doing anything at all.

There are a lot of bumps and bruises in life. But mostly. It. Is. Good.

Those are my thoughts for the day. Enjoy.
